Nobody knows today
who invented the "Hotel Four Seasons"
but the name appeared in Germany during the middle of the I9th century
the very first famous "Hotel Four Seasons" opened
in MunichGermany on July 25 I858 as "Hotel zu den Vierjahreszeiten"
being located on the newly build Maximilanstrasse,
which King Maximilan II of Bavaria wanted to make the Champs Elysees of Bavaria
Founded by August Schimon, the Hotel became immediately famous
and is still today the real Grand Hotel of Munich. It is also a one of the foundations
of the Kempinski group that ownes and manages several Grand Hotels of the World
and even some Palace Hotels of the World.
At about the same time opened in Hamburg another much smaller "Hotel zu den Vier Jahreszeiten"
the Hotel had a wonderful location but it was too small and went out of Business -
the destiny of the Hotel changed with Friedrich Haerlin that bought the House in I897
over time the Hotel was enlarged and transformed into a Legend.
In I989 the Hotel broke a World Record when the Japanese Businessmen Hiroyoshi Aoki
paid 200 Million DM, the highest price ever paid for a Hotel Building.
the Japanese Ownership didn't last very long - in I997 the Four Seasons was bought by Raffles Hotels from Singapore.
On April 30 2007 the Four Seasons changed over to Fairmont Hotels from Toronto.
The name "Four Seasons or Vier Jahreszeiten" was used to differenciate a Hotel "Open all Year"
from a "Seasonal" Winter or Summer Hotel located in Ski or Beach Resorts.
Over the years many other "Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten" appeared all over Germany
and the name was soon translated from German into
French "Hotel Quatre Saisons"
English "Hotel Four Seasons"
Spanish "Hotel Cuatro Estaciones"
Portugeese "Hotel Quatro Estacoes"
and many other Languages
Most of the "historic" Four Season are located in colder regions
where a strong Winter and Summer climate exists,
but today the name has become so fashionable that
hundreds of Hotels around the World use it.
Vier Jahreszeiten - Quatre Saisons - Four Seasons exist in many places
even though the local climate does not really justify the name.
Maybe it's the legendary Hotel Genius of August Schimon, later the Walterspiel Brothers from Munich
or the Haerlin family from Hamburg that has become more important than climatic cchanges ...
with the exeption of a some "petites Horreurs" like in Leipzig
many of the Vier Jahreszeiten - Quatre Saisons - Four Seasons are beautiful Grand Hotels
and many of them are even listed in the
